Studio Mutual Spaces is a design practice rooted in collaboration, reciprocity, and the belief that the spaces we create should reflect a balance between people, nature, and the built environment. It’s about fostering a harmonious relationship between these elements. As everything in life is interconnected, we believe design links various disciplines and cannot be viewed as separate.

As a design platform that bridges architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, interior design, and object design, we are deeply committed to using healthy, sustainable materials while embracing both contemporary and cultural aesthetics. Our focus is on human-centered design, creating spaces that evoke emotion and resonate with the stories of those who inhabit them. We specialize in crafting meaningful experiences that foster connection, a sense of belonging, and well-being, all while nurturing a deeper connection to place.  Above all, we are passionate about designing spaces that foster connection, whether shared or personal, and create meaningful experiences for all who interact with them.

Sümeyye Subasi Gmeiner

Architectural Designer | Founder of Studio Mutual Spaces

My passion for exploring the intersection of built environments and the evolving dialogue between people and spaces led me to establish my studio.

I hold a Master’s degree in Architecture & Environment and am a LEED Green Associate. With years of experience designing exhibitions and immersive environments for visitors, I have developed a deep understanding of how architecture and design can engage and connect people. Over the years, my interest in green design and sustainable building practices grew as I realized the profound impact the built environment has on our health, well-being, and the planet. Witnessing the consequences of unsustainable construction practices inspired me to focus on integrating healthier, environmentally conscious materials and biophilic principles into my work. This shift in perspective allows me to create spaces that not only inspire but also contribute to a healthier and more sustainable future. My work blends sustainable design choices seamlessly with my unique aesthetic.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with renowned makers, artists, and diverse stakeholders worldwide. I served as the Exhibition Designer at the Carnegie Museum of Art in the USA, where I actively contributed to the 58th edition of the Carnegie International, featuring over 100 artists from 40 territories. My experience spans Europe and Asia, having designed and managed projects for established institutions like Volkswagen and renowned design agencies such as GSM Project. I also worked on workspace, retail, residential, and exhibition designs with deWinder, Neo Studio Architects, Iglhaut von Grote, and NAU Architects in Berlin. Additionally, I contributed as an Interaction and Architectural Designer in Dubai, where I worked on the Al Shindagha Museum for the Dubai Municipality.

With over a decade of experience across three continents, I bring a wealth of expertise to every project I undertake. I thrive on creating user-centric, eco-conscious designs, and my approach balances conceptual rigor with hands-on craftsmanship. Through cross-disciplinary collaboration, I strive to foster innovation in every project I take on.

I’m excited to say that Studio Mutual Spaces is growing, and there’s always room for more creativity and innovation. Come, let’s collaborate to create something that not only inspires change but also leaves a lasting impact on people and the world around us.
