Concept:
The CAU Cafe/Shop was designed for an attractive location along a artificially created canal at the CAU Kiel, serving as a recreational area and meeting point. It provides spaces for meeting, learning, dining, and relaxation. By strongly intermingling different uses at the building level, the aim is to create interdisciplinary connections within the campus.
Although the building has been integrated into the new urban concept for CAU Kiel, it was developed independently of this urban design concept, specifically for the WPM02 module at a later stage.
Location The CAU Cafe/Shop is located in the southern part of the new campus area, making it easily accessible from various campus sections. The Olshausenstraße bus stop is just a few meters away, and both the campus shuttle and the bike route pass directly by the building.
Due to its convenient location, the CAU Cafe/Shop attracts visitors from outside the university to the campus grounds, adding vibrancy to the area. The different campus sections, separated by the canals, are connected by attractive access bridges. Along these canals, numerous recreational areas are created, offering a high quality of stay.
Floor plans
The building consists of two structures. A rooftop terrace is located above the café section, providing visitors with a pleasant space to relax with views of the canals and the university library.
